Patrick Legant founded Patrick Legant - Art Consultancy in 2011 as an independent, international, expertise-driven advisory service focusing on European art of the 19th and 20th Century and German & Austrian Expressionism with the aim of giving the best and most impartial advice possible. He is the only independent advisor of his generation who specialises in Impressionist & Modern as well as German & Austrian Expressionist art.

Patrick Legant is based in London, working independently with individual collectors, estates and institutions worldwide on a highly personal level, building and expanding collections in his field of expertise as well as helping with the sale of individual works or entire collections.

Previously, he spent ten years working at Sotheby's in London. He was a Senior Director in the Impressionist and Modern Art Department, Director of German and Austrian Art and a provenance researcher in the Restitution Department. During those years he was responsible for the sale of record setting collections and works of art by artists such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Max Beckmann, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Wilhelm Lehmbruck and Emil Nolde, among others.

All his years of experience in the international art world have given him a unique knowledge and understanding of the art market, and access to a global network of collectors, curators and dealers which he puts to the service of his clients.

Patrick Legant studied History of Art in Vienna and Canterbury (UK), and completed his MA at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. He is frequently featured as an expert in his field and a close observer of the art market in international news media such as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, The Telegraph, Handelsblatt and The New York Times.

Furthermore, Patrick Legant is a regular donor to the Courtauld Annual Fund and a member of the Max Beckmann Society and of the Friends of the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford University.
