Plate 4 of The Lord’s Prayer, a set of 12 woodcuts published by Propylaen-Verlag, Berlin, in 1921. The poses of the three figures reflect the three stages of the prayer.
Pechstein joined the Brücke in 1906 and after living in Paris for some months in 1907 he moved to Berlin in 1908 which remained his home. He maintained contact with the other members, joining their summer expeditions in 1910 and more closely after their move to Berlin in 1911. He was expelled from the group when he exhibited independently at the Berlin Secession in 1912.
