Leicester Museums received a set of nine drawings by von Kaulbach in 1926. They were thought to be illustrations to a story. They are numbered so we know the order in which they should be viewed but we do not know what the story is. If you have any information, please get in touch with us at germanexpressionism@leicester.gov.uk
The fourth scene is back in the tavern but the characters who remain are sat at a different table. The man who was stood in the first scene is now seated while the young man he was talking to is sat at an adjacent table and appears to be trying to ignore the heckles of the seated man whilst his companions look miserable. It seems the man has spoilt their fun.
