Leicester Museums received a set of nine drawings by von Kaulbach in 1926. They were thought to be illustrations to a story. They are numbered so we know the order in which they should be viewed but we do not know what the story is. If you have any information, please get in touch with us at germanexpressionism@leicester.gov.uk
In the final scene, the troubled young man is back in a tavern where he is sat with some different men and there are cards or money on the table. The man who appears to have been the cause of his trouble is at his shoulder and looks angry. It appears he wants the young man to follow him outside but the young man is reluctant to do so.
